Laurie is the Chief Dreamer and Doer of www.SoManyBeaches.com.
Proudly born and raised in Texas, she has traveled and lived in countries on five continents. In 2011, after 10 years working in progressive politics, she and her husband Damon took a sabbatical of sorts to Central America. Five months living abroad and some cocktail-napkin math led them to the bold decision to sell everything, buy a boat and “figure it out.” From their adopted home port of Bocas del Toro, Panama, they are currently, happily, figuring it out. You can read more about L, D and Kemah (the canine “Mr. K”) at www.SoManyBeaches.com.
Next destination on your list: I’m really looking forward to visiting the Kuna Yala again this year – this time in my own boat!
Best travel tip: As a woman, I always make sure to have a lightweight, longsleeve button-up shirt. It provides modesty and sun protection for areas where that’s needed.
Scariest wildlife experience: Being stuck in an open-air jeep during a night safari in Kenya while a pregnant lioness “looking for slow prey” kept a close eye on us. (!)
Didn’t want to close my eyes for a second at: The Taj Mahal.
