  • Isla Palenque is National Geographic’s Pick of the Day!

    Isla Palenque, Panama island

Ben spread the word in a previous post about photographer Adam Elliott’s entry in a National Geographic photo contest. Adam submitted 2 pictures of Isla Palenque for consideration in the contest, and for everyone’s enjoyment. The photographs are truly stunning HDR compositions that capture the island’s beauty in a way that mimics what you’ll see when you visit Isla Palenque. The annual National Geographic photography contest, “World in Focus,” does have its own internal judges, but website visitors can be judges too! Just click a photo and rate the image 1 to 10 to make your mark on the People’s Choice award.

Today (June 30, 2009), the National Geographic travel blog, Intelligent Travel, featured Adam’s photo of Isla Palenque as their pick of the day! To me this is a testament, not only to Adam’s talent, but to the unique beauty of the island. The wild, ancient, almost primordial look of Isla Palenque has a tangible effect on one’s psyche.

Tomorrow morning I leave for a visit to Isla Palenque, and already I feel my mind starting to release everyday concerns in preparation for the journey. I have lots of work to do, but it’s so much nicer to contemplate palm trees…
