December 23, 2009, Christmas Eve’s Eve. And just in time for the holiday, the Panamanian government announced plans to give the Chiriqui province a 400-million-dollar present next year.
An article in La Prensa (Panama’s big newspaper) discusses the government’s plans to invest in infrastructure projects in Chiriqui, the province where Isla Palenque is located. 2010 should see a lot of dramatic improvements, preparing the region for increased tourism.
Much of the money will go to road expansions, including making the Interamericana highway four lanes from David past the turn-off to Palenque. Most importantly, the allotment of funds will help complete the expansion of the David airport to serve 250-person international flights. Imagine being able to be on a boat to Palenque in just a few hours from Miami or Houston. Great news!

Nice. So that means it will be a 90 room hotel?
