  • An Extraordinary Island Escape in Panama, by way of Chicago

Last week, we welcomed a sea of new faces to the shores of Isla Palenque at the Travel & Adventure Expo in Chicago. You came up in ones, twos, and whole families to talk with us for a moment in your quest for island treasure, which was broadcast boldly from our booth:

    Travel expo, Isla Palenque

Isla Palenque's beaches and jungle tempt from behind, while "Win a 4-Night Island Escape" lures in the foreground.

Most of you were already familiar with Panama as an up-and-coming destination… a place where crowds such as the one we found ourselves in at the expo are all but nonexistent.

And for any attendees who didn’t already know Panama as a Mecca for off-the-beaten-path adventures, Michelle Payette of Funjet Vacations gave an entire presentation on the broad appeal of this narrow S-shaped country.

Panama’s promise of lush wilderness, blissfully empty beaches, historic ruins and charming urban boroughs chock-full of eclectic local culture, had many of you pretty starry-eyed by the time you came to “The Booth at Isla Palenque.” And once you’d had a chance to take a look at our stunning private island, it quickly became clear that we wouldn’t be answering very many general questions about Panama travel, as we had expected to do — rather, the #1 FAQ of the day was:

“How do I get to your incredible island!?!”

(if you’re still wondering, you’ll find the answer here)

Another question we were only too happy to answer again and again:

“Will I get bored on a deserted island for a week?

In two words: no way. 🙂

Over twenty tours and excursions, incredible dining experiences courtesy of Chef Oliver Blond, wild jungle fitness and daring island-hopping exploits… with some holistic spa and wellness offerings, naturally, to keep you feeling as beautiful as your surroundings, mean that you would have to work very hard to become bored on Isla Palenque, and we’re bound and determined to keep you from doing anything like work while you’re with us. Your invigorating tropical forest treks and rock hikes don’t count — these just serve to make gourmet dinner on the beach and fine cocktail pairings taste better.

    Isla Palenque, travel expo

A young boy is enthralled by our Island Intern's short film of life on Isla Palenque, while Dad talks Panama travel with Emily.

So of course you are all wondering (if you haven’t scrolled straight to this point), who is the lucky soul who’ll soon be enjoying four days of island life on Isla Palenque, completely gratis?

We’re proud to announce that the 4-night stay at Isla Palenque belongs to…

    Island escape, travel contest

Brooke and her boyfriend Greg will be making the journey to Isla Palenque together as a shared anniversary present.

Brooke Bullock! Congratulations on your good luck and much-deserved island escape, Brooke!

“We are both transplants to the Chicago area (from the West) and due to work schedules, we were not able to make our annual trip home to relax over the holidays,” says Brooke. “When we got to your booth, we were both intrigued by the seclusion and unique experiences your resort has to offer. We thought the island and ocean excursions went above and beyond any vacation at the expo. Looking forward to spending our anniversary and creating many memories together in this amazing island sanctuary!”

We can’t wait to welcome you, Brooke and Greg, and we’ll be sure to plan a romantic afternoon on one of the nearby uninhabited islands, just you two.

Unfortunately, this year we could only award one island escape (being an environmentally-sensitive resort necessitates economic sustainability, too) — but we hope to see many more travel expo attendees on Isla Palenque this year! Thank you for meeting with us and sharing your love of extraordinary travel, island life, and the beauty of the wilderness.

    Coming up on The Ambler
Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing vignettes from our soft opening — keep your tab open on The Ambler for some behind-the-scenes photos of culinary creations from Edén, guaranteed to stir adventurous appetites!

Travel expo, contest winnerTo select our winner, an employee who was not in attendance at the expo entered all contestants into an Excel spreadsheet in no particular order. There were 501 contestants. We then used Random Number Generator Organization website to generate a random from 1 through 501 and number 197 was selected. The contestant in that row was our winner.
