  • A Day in Boquete, Panama

Mountain mist refreshes, canopy ziplining invigorates, coffee-tasting energizes, and hikes happen to the trills, brrs, coos and calls of countless tropical bird species.

    Boquete Chiriqui, Boquete Panama

No matter what the itinerary, guests of our Panama resort get buzzed off a day in Boquete, Chiriqui.

Last week, I joined guests Brian & Andrea on their mainland excursion to Boquete, Panama, where we zoomed over the cloud forests of Boquete’s Palo Alto region led by a team of roguish ziplining guides. These professionals appear to move effortlessly along the cables, inspiring everyone with acrophobic misgivings to overcome their fears and embrace the sensation of flight. Boquete Tree Trek’s unblemished reputation (no serious accidents in 10 years of operation) and a pair of gung-ho pre-teens in our tour group also helped to keep my knees from quaking too much before my first go down the line.

Brian, Andrea & I chased our treetop canopy tour with a tapas-style lunch on the mountainview patio, then rumbled back into downtown Boquete for a lower-octane afternoon of shopping, visiting coffee growers, and just generally ambling around.

I snuck a catnap into the car ride back to Boca Chica, then snuck a photo of our guests glowing in the last light of day aboard Shephard as we rode over the Gulf of Chiriqui to reach our island home at Isla Palenque in time for a memorable dinner at Edén.

Brian & Andrea, thank you for sharing your day with me — and for showing the way to all who head for the misty hills of Boquete during their stay at Isla Palenque.
