Don’t worry, soon-to-arrive guests of our Panama resort; we’re still the best-kept secret in Chiriqui. But our soft opening has attracted the attention of The Sun, The Independent, and a couple of others, and we thought to point our blog readers towards the latest press on The Resort at Isla Palenque.
“The Big Six: Panama retreats”, The Independent
Last month The Independent’s Sophie Lam divulged her top picks for luxurious getaways in Central America. We’re thrilled to report that our new boutique hotel made the grade as one of the “Big Six” in all of Panama!
“Holiday Central: Discover secret luxury resorts in Latin America”, The Sun
Another UK-based writer, Rob Crossan, is equally guilty of spilling the beans on the unique experience we debuted last February. Following his early stay at our then-two-week-old resort, Rob wrote a roundup of Latin America’s most perfect hidden hotspots, including The Resort at Isla Palenque.
At this time, we’d like to apologize to longstanding fans of The Resort at Isla Palenque for nurturing an addiction to the inside scoop. We promise not to leave you unsatisfied for long… and here’s something to tide you over:
(Though it won’t officially publish until Monday, a preview of the upcoming piece on Isla Palenque is currently available in Robb Report’s online magazine.)
A number of our soft opening guests have expressed concerns that our island, resort, and this pristine part of Panama will become a little too well-known as a result of our efforts to make it accessible to a sophisticated luxury travel clientele.
This is a fear we share on a certain (perhaps illogical) level – we cringe a bit at the idea of a boatload of bandwagoners zipping over the Gulf of Chiriqui towards our island sanctuary, debarking at Muelle Girón and proceeding to mar Isla Palenque’s untrodden beaches with an overabundance of tourist feet.
But then we remember (let’s sigh our relief in unison):
We have just six rooms. Our grand opening later this year will add only ten more.
On several occasions during our soft opening, a couple or family staying at Isla Palenque has had private enjoyment of the entire Villa Estate and amenities at Playa Primera due to all other guests being off on an island-hopping adventure or hiking excursion. This actually happens quite often, even when we’re booked to capacity.
Basking in an infinity pool with an endless vista of the Gulf of Chiriqui, just you and your travel companion… gourmet lunch in the bohio below without another soul in sight (save our attentive staff)… and an unhurried afternoon of jungle exploration along Sendero Perdida (the trail that begins just steps from Playa Primera) to reach the little “lost beach” – these will remain the privileges of guests who stay in the Estate Rooms at Playa Primera even after the Tented Suites appear along the bluff overlooking Playa Palenque, expanding our boutique hotel to the full 16-room experience.
And as future phases of the development come into being – beginning next year with the vacation residences of our Isla Palenque Founders Club members – even yet will it be possible to feel far from the crowd and the cares of everyday life while on Isla Palenque. Since the entire eco-development at full buildout will preserve more than two-thirds of the island in its undisturbed natural state, with all construction occurring on less than 5% of the island’s total area…
…there’s plenty of Isla Palenque for our guests and homeowners to delight in discovering — now, in five years, in ten years, and when the next generation of island explorers makes way for our volcanic shores.
So if you recently returned from a stay at Isla Palenque and have since told every friend, colleague, family member and the TripAdvisor community all about it, or have re-posted and reTweeted and emailed bites from the media’s breadcrumb trail leading others to Palenque, don’t worry that you’re abetting the sins of uncontrolled tourism. Our resort and operations have been designed to protect the overall wellbeing of this region, its people, and our island wilderness, so those who make the journey to our island achieve a positive impact.
Our only caution is to make sure you book your next vacation early. Six rooms fill up fast. 🙂
